HELICONIAN HALL FOUNDATION

About the heliconian Hall foundation

Heliconian Hall is a National Historic Site, with a large, impressive plaque located near the building’s front entrance. Given its historic significance and the shared commitment and affection that club members and the wider community hold for the space, it is fitting that an entity should exist to ensure its preservation: hence the Heliconian Hall Foundation.
National Historic Site Plaque for the Heliconian Hall
This plaque was erected in 2011. To read more about our
official National Heritage designation click here.
Efforts to create the Heliconian Hall Foundation began in 1973, and in 1991 it was granted formal charitable status, allowing Foundation donors to receive charitable donation tax receipts.
All funds are used for restoration and improvement of Heliconian Hall. Past projects vary from major repair and upgrading work to maintaining the heritage fabric of an aging building and keeping the Hall up to date with building safety codes required for public usage.

Looking Ahead

Light fixtures in Heliconian Hall
Ongoing projects continue to both enhance and maintain the atmosphere and historic authenticity of the Hall. For example, the style of the new pendant light fixtures in the Main Hall was specifically chosen to be in keeping with the overall ambience (see photo at right). Another recent project nearing completion is upgrading the main floor to meet new accessibility standards. A washroom was installed in 2022 and a ramp to the French doors on the east side of the building was built in 2021.

In 2024 the Foundation plans to focus on addressing the following elements that have been identified as high priority:
Roof replacement
Repair building base masonry
Chimney capping and flashing
Retrofit shingled gable façade
Repair or replace fascia boards
Batten joint sealant
Replace fireplace damper

Of course, all of these projects will require significant funds. The Foundation is embarking on a major fundraising drive in the near future to assist us with addressing the above issues so please check this webpage regularly for updates and consider donating to our cause.
