HELICONIAN HALL
Part of rural Toronto when it was built in 1875, Heliconian Hall is situated between contemporary galleries in today’s Yorkville. Original elements of the Carpenter’s Gothic board-and-batten church have been restored to their former glory; a Victorian rose window above the entrance presides over a majestic oak and brick wood-burning fireplace; the air-conditioned hall with vaulted ceiling and wooden rafters provides stellar acoustics, making the club popular for musical and dramatic presentations. An adjacent suite has a modest finishing kitchen, and a small reception space with a pull-out bar.

Permanent Fixtures:
STEINWAY GRAND PIANO
Optional Fixtures:
CHAIRS
Exluded Amenities:
The Heliconian owns certain kitchenwares for its Club functions, but these are not available for rental use. These include:
STEINWAY GRAND PIANO
- A Steinway Model B 6' 11" Grand Piano. It may be moved anywhere on the raised stage area, but we do not remove it from the stage area for rental events.
- We currently have six non-collapsible, metal music stands. Sometimes that number grows and shrinks when people leave stands here, or take stands with them.
- There is always a visual art show on the wall. It changes approximately monthly. It cannot be removed, altered, or covered in a manner that touched the art, at any time.
- The perimeter of the main hall is lined with a mixture of benches and pews, which provide seating for approximately 30 to 40 people. We cannot remove them from the hall for a rental, as we have no where to store them. They can be moved within the space (while keeping fire exits and pathways clear). They can be used for seating in the centre of the hall. However, the longer pews rely on wall support to remain upright. Also, the floors and walls under and behind the pew are slightly different in colour from sun fading, so moving the benches is optional, but not necessarily advisable.
- The hall has a large harvest table (48 inches wide, and 53 inches long minimum, with 41 inches in removable leaves, and a maximum length of 94 inches). It is often used as a buffet table, meeting table, merchandise table, etc. It is on wheels, but shall only be used in the Board Room.
- There are two other wood tables permanently in the space. They are often used for box office, merchandise sales, recording equipment, etc. They can be moved into either the Main hall or the Board room, but they cannot be moved from the main floor.
Optional Fixtures:
CHAIRS
- Approximately 80 matching grey chairs used as the main seating for concerts, etc. Combined with benches around the perimeter of the hall, creates seating for 120. Can be stored in closet if not needed.
- Approximately 40 black folding chairs. They double as art easels, so are often not clean, and not intended as main seating, but are available. Can be stored in closet if not needed.
- We have six 6' tables and six 8' tables on site (all 29.5 inches wide), available for use.
- Located above the stage for projection Screen measures 83.5 inches wide, and length is adjustable and has one seam. Projecting in to the area above the proscenium is an excellent alternative and provides better sightlines for the audience.
- Two coffee urns
- Electric kettle
- Platters
- Water Pitchers
- Large Serving Bowls
- Kitchen appliances (please ask for assistance)

CAPACITY
- Our fire limit is 124 people. This includes all performers, volunteers, catering staff, photographers, etc. (all people in the building, including children). The capacity drops to 105 persons for events seated at tables and 91 persons (excluding catering, serving, and building staff) for any event where alcohol is served (no matter the furniture set-up) The Heliconian Club will always have one staff person on site who must be included in the fire limit count but not the Alcohol limit. The renter is responsible for limiting the number of people in the building to 124 for their rental event. The hall seats about 120 people, but if there are more than 4 performers, this can result in empty seats for the performance. Empty seats cannot be sold if the number of people in the building is at 124. Seating capacity and fire limit are different.
