Music and Poetry Concert

On Sunday, September 24th at 3:00 pm. the Heliconian Club will honoured the late Patricia Rideout, contralto, with an afternoon of Music and Poetry.

Patricia Rideout's wide-ranging career included engagements with the Canadian Opera Company, the Stratford and Guelph festivals, CBC recitals, and projects with Glenn Gould. She was perhaps best known as a champion of new music, giving premier performances of many works, including several by Canadian composers, some written expressly for her.

Mary Rezza Memorial Student Recital
Former Heliconian Mary Rezza (1930-2000) started the tradition of this annual concert in which the talented students of teaching members of the Music Section are given the opportunity to perform. Sunday, April 15, 2007 3:00 pm

Young Artist Student Recital
A young female artist who is on the verge of a professional career is presented in concert on the stage of Heliconian Hall.

The 2006-2007 honoree was violinist, Jennifer Kozbial.

Scots Wae Hae

The skirl of the bagpipes, Scottish dancing and story telling entertained Heliconians and their friends at a Burns night gala Thursday, February 1, 2007. Conveners were Jennifer Carroll, Barbara Fris and Dawn Potts, who also addressed the haggis.

The evening was a fund-raiser for the Club's 2009 Centennial Scholarship. Thursday, January 25th, 2007.

Watermarks
Watermarks, a concert of music inspired by water, was devised by Jane Blackstone with participants from all sections of the Toronto Heliconian Club. The programme included works for piano, voice, koto and violin, as well as poetry, painting, and photography.

I'm Just a Broadway Baby: Music by Bernstein, Sondheim & Weill

Featuring Janet Catherine Dea (soprano), Brahm Goldhamer (piano),
and guest artist: Keith Klassen (tenor)

The program included well known solos and ensembles from hit shows such as West Side Story, A Little Night Music and Street Scene along with lesser known gems that had been either cut from musicals before they opened or were in “so-called” failures. The artists contrasted some of Kurt Weill’s Broadway oeuvre with selections written while he was still in Europe
